After a five-year period of no 2-D animation films, Disney is coming out with “The Princess and the Frog”.
The Disney website says that, “’The Princess and the Frog marks the return to hand-drawn animation.” The film is produced by John Musker and Ron Clements, with music by Oscar-winning composer Randy Newman. It is currently the 49th animated film feature in Walt Disney animated classics and the first 2-D film since “Home on the Range” released in 2004.
There is a limited release for the film in New York and LA on November 25th, but it will be in theatres everywhere on December 11th.
“It sounds cute,” said Jenna Cosper, HTM freshman from Texas. “Especially if it’s the first animated film by Disney in a while. I’d like to see if Disney can still keep their reputation.”
Disney.com says that “The Princess and the Frog” is an animated comedy set in the city of New Orleans. Produced by the creators of "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin", the film is a modern twist on the classic tale, “The Frog Prince”. “It features a beautiful girl named Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana”, according to the Disney website.
“I’m going to see it. I love cartoons. I love cartoons more than I like movies”, said Denzil Kumar, music education senior from Fiji. “I like that it’s a black story. When’s the first time Disney has come out with a story that is not its conventional Caucasian princess. Aladdin was the last one. The film has two things going for it. It’s an American story and it features a black princess.”
