"Avengers: Age of Ultron" hit the box office on May 1, and earned $191 million in domestic revenue, making it the second-best debut of all time.
The best debut of all time goes to Avengers, which brought in an astounding $207 million on its opening weekend in 2012. BYU-Hawaii students who lined up Thursday night, April 29, to watch "Avengers: Age of Ultron," said they thought the second film should have taken the No. 1 spot.
According to Forbes; Marvel and Disney, “now have the top three opening weekend records, with 'The Avengers' ($207m), 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' ($191.3m), and 'Iron Man 3' ($174m) topping the list.”
Forbes continues, “In terms of overseas might, its $626.7 million worldwide cume is a bit under the $641m worldwide cume after the first 1.5 weeks of Avengers worldwide play. But overseas debuts are often apples-to-oranges comparisons due to films opening in different markets at different times in their global runs.”
Jansen Tesoro, a Laie community member, said she is a big superhero movie fan. “This was a great movie for superhero movie fans. This was defiantly a feverishly anticipated sequel,” Tesoro said of the movie.
In regards to the $191 million the movie made, Tesoro said, “That is a whole lot of money! I’m surprised and at the same time not surprised that Marvel is dominating the movie industry. Who cares that they came in second, that is a whole lot of money to make in one weekend!”
Dillon Deffense, a recent BYUH business graduate from California, went to the Laie Palms Theater to see "Avengers: Age of Ultron" on opening night and said he would give the movie six stars, one for every Avenger. Deffense shared why he liked it: “The movie was non-stop action and had a great storyline.
Just like any movie series, I definitely would recommend going back and re-watching the last Avenger movie. There were some parts that didn’t make sense and I heard that was because the film was originally longer. Overall it was a fun movie to watch.” McKinzie Norton, a sophomore graphic design major from Kansas, said she, “Loved, loved Thor.”
Norton said even though "Avengers: Age of Ultron" was a good movie, “Honestly, I’m just there for Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans. So yeah, I’ll pay to watch them on the big screen.”
For those of you interested in seeing this new blockbuster, Marvel gives a synopsis of the movie: “The epic follow-up to the biggest superhero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance."
As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.” Uploaded May 22, 2015
