Never before in “The Bachelorette” or “The Bachelor” history has one of the final 3 three suitors chosen to leave the show abruptly. This season the suitor favored to receive the final rose, Brooks Forester, from the Bachelorette Desire Hartsock, abruptly ended things with her on before what was supposed to be their final date before her decision. Desiree broke down and told him that he was her choice; he was the one that she saw herself being with. One week later, however, she accepted a proposal from the last bachelor standing after she prematurely sent home the second to last suitor. Viewers and critics claim Hartsock rebounded accepting the proposal from her last suitor, Chris Siegfried. The show looked like it would end with Desiree heartbroken and in tears, but it took a dramatic turn when she decided to go on one more date with each of the two remaining men. While on the date with the now runner up, Drew Kenney, Hartsock told him “'I don't know if I see our futures together - if I can be 100 percent for you. I'm feeling there's something missing.” With that, Drew headed home. Desiree then had her last and final date with Siegfried, where she realized what she had in front of her the whole time, and within days she was engaged to him.“I feel like she definitely didn’t rebound,” said Carl Funk, a sophomore in Engineering from Texas. “This show is so crazy because it allows you to develop genuine feelings of love for a couple different people simultaneously. I feel like she was just caught way off guard with Brooks’ sudden departure. I feel like she was intrigued by him because he was the only one who didn’t tell her yet that he loved her.” Hartsock said she “didn’t settle. Brooks leaving gave me clarity. I had been falling in love with Chris. Feelings are very accelerated during this process, and that helped me get over the hurt because I knew I had two amazing men left who did love me. I was able to stay hopeful. I had strong feelings for Chris all along, and after our date in Antigua, my feelings were solidified.”As for Chris Siegfried, “I was fine with it, really. I didn’t have any doubts…I feel really calm. Des is the one.”
