Vendors and the on-site manager of the Kailua Farmers’ Market share the importance of supporting local farmers and business owners
The Kailua Farmers’ Market focuses on sustainability and showcasing the use of local ingredients in products and food, said Sara Agoot, the on-site market manager from Kauai. “In our farmers’ market, we focus on supporting local farmers, products and agriculture to visitors and tourists around the world,” she explained.
The Hawaii Activities website says Kailua is situated on the east coast of the island of Oahu. It is mostly known for its outdoor activities, beaches and scenic hikes. Every Thursday, the Kailua Farmers’ Market is located in Kailua Town Center from 4 to 7 p.m. It is where farmers, artisans and food vendors showcase their products to people.
Agoot said every vendor around the market transforms local ingredients into a product or food that is unique from everybody else. “It is a way to show to tourists and visitors how we adore locally grown ingredients and products. It is also a way where we show our support to our members in the community,” she said.
The owner of Youpo Noodles HI, Chef Andrew Pressler, said his product is hand-pulled noodles combined with local ingredients. He said his beef noodles are among the best sellers he has. Moreover, he said he gets his meat from local stores on the island. “I know that sustainability is the goal of every farmers’ market in Hawaii, so my meats are taken from different butcher shops around the island of Oahu,” he said.
Maya Young, a food service worker at Little Sparrow from Honolulu, said, “Among the varieties of food around the market, Little Sparrow has offered since 2021 to the people of Oahu here in Hawaii, Spaetzle, a well-known European dish.” She said the owners created this recipe to attract local Hawaiian people, visitors and tourists to showcase the uniqueness of their product, which is made out of local ingredients. She said the schedule of when they are at the market can be found on their Instagram account or check out the Kailua Farmers' Market website by clicking HERE.
