Action-packed and tied together with a cohesive storyline and vibrant animation, Demon Slayer has cemented itself as one of the best anime ever released, said Christian Abacahin. BYUH students shared their thoughts on the anime that is taking the world by storm, particularly with its latest release.

Christian Abacahin, a freshman from the Philippines majoring in business, rated the latest Demon Slayer arc an 8.5 out of 10. He said it was one of the most exciting releases this summer. While he felt this release seemed like a cash-grab filler leading up to the show's climax, he still loved seeing his favorite characters from the manga brought to life in animation.

Abacahin mentioned his favorite part of the show was learning the backstories of some of the Hashiras, especially Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Hashira. He said he was shocked when Himejima managed to beat a demon to death with his bare hands. He also expressed his excitement when Lady Tamayo entered the battle and assisted the Demon Slayer Corps.

Abacahin said the arc could have been better with more scenes of Lady Tamayo in action. He noted the pacing was a bit slow, and some of the backstories could have been shorter. He added there were moments in the show where he lost focus because certain parts were uninteresting.

Marc Angelo Esquivel, a freshman from the Philippines majoring in mathematics, rated the arc an 8 out of 10. He said his favorite part was the last episode, where all the demon slayers were suddenly teleported into Infinity Castle. Having read the manga, he said, the animators did an amazing job translating the Infinity Castle from the manga into the anime.

Esquivel highlighted a memorable moment when one of the main characters, Zenitsu, reacted to receiving a letter. He noted Zenitsu’s expression changed dramatically after receiving the letter, it gave him chills. “I can't reveal what was in the letter without giving away spoilers, but that one moment in the show left me in awe,” said Esquivel.

He said one area that could have been improved was the pacing of the Hashira training. Esquivel remarked, “Some parts of the training were entertaining. I could see when they tried to make it funny, but the delivery fell flat.” He added the joke would have been funnier if it had been placed between serious, emotional moments, and he found it difficult to stay interested throughout the entire sequence.

Chaoboran Oroum, a sophomore from Cambodia majoring in business management, rated the show an 8 out of 10. He said he only started watching Demon Slayer this summer break and was hooked. He said the overall storyline was extremely good and compelling, revealing that he finished one season in a day. Oroum mentioned he was glad he didn’t start watching when it was first released because the wait for new seasons would have been painful, given how long they take to release.

Regarding the Hashira Training Arc, Oroum felt it would have been better as filler episodes than a whole arc. He said the only notable event was the final battle between the demon lord Muzan and the Demon Slayer Corps. He added that the rest of the arc, including the training and the backstories could have been skipped. Nevertheless, he said he understood the purpose was likely to prolong the series.
