Pressure from finals and uncertainties about the future are similar to the pressures that change the shape of rocks, shared Sister Amy S. Jaggi at the first mask-free BYU–Hawaii commencement ceremony since the pandemic began.

More than 100 BYU–Hawaii students with conference name tags presented more than 80 undergraduate research projects in various McKay and Science Building locations at the Undergraduate Research Conference on March 31. In the Science Building, third-floor hallways and classrooms walls were covered with research posters and presenters stood by them to present to individuals and groups.

Ten minutes before karaoke night with Korea Club was scheduled to end, there were more than seven students’ names on the waitlist to sing, causing the event to continue for more than hour longer than expected.

When President Sidney J. Bassett returned to graduate school in his 50s, he said he felt he did not belong in many ways. In his first online class, he shared he was discouraged, embarrassed and his confidence was shot from everyone ignoring and talking over him. He explained he later realized that he had been on mute the entire time. He unmuted, waited his turn, then jumped in to be heard. “It wasn’t profound in any way, but at that moment, I chose to belong.”
