A film adaptation of the 1970s musical play “Saturday’s Warrior” is coming to Laie Palms Cinemas this Friday, May 6. The movie will resonate with the Latter-day Saint community just as the stage production did over 40 years ago.Set in the 1970s, “Saturday’s Warrior” is the story of a Mormon family whose members struggle with trials and questions of faith as they navigate the challenges of the time.

Uniquely, the plot covers both the characters’ mortal and pre-mortal lives, highlighting the importance of “knowing who you truly are.” Though serious, the issues are also treated with a healthy dose of humor and plenty of musical numbers that are sure to delight audiences.

The film adaptation opened in nine theaters in Utah at the beginning of April and was favorably received, with thousands of moviegoers attending in the first week. Its success prompted other openings in theaters around Utah and now beyond.

Those familiar with the original production will find the film adaptation to stay true to its plotline and message, with a few changes—including several new musical numbers and cameos of Mormon icons like Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, and Alex Boyé.
