Having a passion for art, Zully Davila, a senior from Peru majoring in art education, described her art as a personal escape from everyday stresses. She has used her passion to work for local artist Sarah Caudle in Mele Murals, an organization which promotes art education through mural painting, and to start her hair and eyelash business Z The Change.
As part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Light the World Campaign, the Church released a new video depicting the nativity titled “The Christ Child.” BYU–Hawaii students said they enjoyed the realism portrayed in this nearly 18-minute reimagining of the Nativity.
The missionary training series, “The District Series 1” and “The District Series 2,” were made in an effort to help teach new and current missionaries how to be Preach My Gospel missionaries, as well as help them gain realistic expectations of missionary life. Kimchi’s flavor depends on how it is prepared, said Park Yerang a freshman from South Korea majoring in graphic design. She said the classic cabbage kimchi with red pepper has a spicy kick to it, even though the cabbage itself is cold. She said white kimchi is the opposite, because it does not have the peppers to give it spice, it has a pungent sour taste, which in combination with the fact it is also cold makes it nice to eat in the summer.

Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Maria-Onore were among nine people who were killed in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26, said Alex Villanueva, the Los Angeles County sheriff, during a news conference. Bryant was 41 while his daughter Gianna was 13.

Nearly 93 years after the release of the television special “Mr. Krueger’s Christmas,” Elder Stephen Allen, the director of the Laie Hawaii Temple Visitors' Center, who was also an executive producer on “Mr. Krueger’s Christmas,” reminisced, along with BYU–Hawaii students, about the film.

The Laie Hawaii Temple includes several pieces of art from the friezes near the top of the temple to the sculptures around it, and members of the Laie community said this art tells a story. Kap Te’o Tafiti, a carver, sculptor, performer and senior cultural ambassador at the Polynesian Cultural Center, said all the art he creates has a purpose. He said in regards to art, its purpose is to tell a story.
Although they left BYUH in 2006, Patty Srisuwan and her husband Chris Cowden’s legacy of filmmaking is still felt by students and faculty as the Cowdens prepare for their directorial and theatrical debut “Moments in Spacetime.”
