Before becoming a professor at BYU–Hawaii, Dr. Lenard Huff said he taught in several universities such as the University of Phoenix. After teaching for five years at the University of Hawaii, he said he read a Church News post saying BYUH needed a new marketing professor.
The Philippine Independence Day was celebrated two days early on June 10 through a cultural night at the BYU–Hawaii Cafeteria where not only Filipinos gathered to enjoy a special food menu, but students from different countries enjoyed the food as well.
After dancing for hours with sombreros and piñatas on their heads and wiping the sweat off their faces and backs, students agreed the “Fiesta Night” dance, hosted by Seasider Sports and Activities, was a great way to network and interact with their classmates.
Undeterred by the rain, hundreds of students gathered at the BYU-Hawaii swimming pool for the Dive In movie activity on Oct. 5 hosted by Seasider Sports and Activities.
United by friendly competition, students said their love for dancing motivated them to form groups and join BYU–Hawaii’s Best Dance Crew competition. A variety of dancing styles such as Irish step, Bollywood, hip hop and Latin American dancing were showcased by five different groups on May 24 in the McKay Gymnasium.
Elementary students made their way through the McKay Auditorium stage as student drummers kept the audience and performers dancing during the BYU–Hawaii Shaka Steel performance on March 28. Audience members said the concert created a strong sense of community because of the joint effort from BYUH students and children in the Laie area.
Roaring with applause, attendees filled the McKay auditorium on Feb. 2 with cheers during the end of music majors’ Lawrence Laureano and Nicole Villejo’s recital.
Chosen to be this year’s speaker for the BYU-Hawaii’s annual convocation, Dr. Neil J. Anderson, professor of English Language Teaching and Learning, will discuss the increasing Metacognitive Engagement through the BYU-Hawaii framework for learning and teaching. He will be presenting his speech at the McKay Auditorium on September 27 at 11 a.m.
Walking down the red carpet wearing clothes and holding bags they put hours of work into, home economics students celebrated their creations as they hosted a fashion show on Dec. 4. Students shared how they learned to overcome their own self-doubt regarding their ability to create.
