“Love & Things” is a newly published quote book by video producer, marathon runner and Robert Redford look-alike Ethan Precourt.

A senior majoring in marketing from Boston, Mass., Precourt started to write down thoughts or ideas in a little black book during his mission in Concepcion, Chile, he said. The contents of the book are not all from Precourt.

“On my mission, I had some down time so I would start writing down all the funny things my mission companions or our investigators would say. Sometimes they would be funny. Sometimes they would be inspirational that would be about life,” said Precourt.

Precourt said he always joked around with his mission companions that he was going to publish a book, but never really thought he would do it. “The idea just kind of presented itself and Emily Thompson actually was the one who put the book together. I just gave the quotes and she made it.”

It’s available for purchase, but Ethan said he doesn’t make money off of it because it’s really expensive. “Me and my mom have bought the book,” said Precourt.

Perri Cook is a sophomore majoring in graphic design from Arizona, and she has read both the black and published book and said, “There are a lot of random ideas. Some are kind of out there sometimes. There is one about Oreos that I really appreciate.”

That appreciated quote is: “Never eat Oreos before giving a talk, before going to the dentist and before giving a public speech.” Another one of Cook’s and Precourt’s favorite quote is, “If you want to learn to love someone you serve them, but if you want someone to love you, you have to make them serve you.”

When Cook first heard this quote she said she thought it sounded really demanding, but after reading it again, she realized, “it makes more sense because you have to be willing to let others into your heart.”

“Love & Things” has pictures of some of Precourt’s closest friends and one of those is Shez Hannemann, a freshman with an undecided major from Laie. “I think the quote book is really intriguing,” he said. “As I read, it gives off emotion and it makes me more excited about life and love and passion. The book is full of unseen attributes of life. You read lots of words but everything is in between the lines. Love. The book is love.”
