This winter, highly anticipated movies of renowned stories will be released worldwide, most notably the seventh episode of “Star Wars,” according to the Internet Movie Database. BYUH students are also eager for “View from a Blue Moon,” and “The Good Dinosaur.”

Tyler Beck, a sophomore from California with an undecided major stated, “I’m looking forward to the ‘Star Wars’ movie like everyone else.” And he wasn’t wrong. On Dec. 18, “Star Wars Episode Seven: The Force Awakens” will premier. When the tickets became available, so many people were trying to get their virtual hands on them at the same time that the movie ticket websites couldn’t handle the traffic and crashed.

Directed by J.J. Abrams and featuring much of the cast from the original trilogy, the new “Stars Wars” movie brings together generations of people who grew up with the movies. “I’m excited to see ‘Star Wars’ because it’s ‘Star Wars!’”

That was the exclamation of Kailey Trussel, a junior psychology major from Washington, which resounded exactly with the thoughts of Andrew Lang, a junior chemistry major from Oregon.

Braden Hamilton, a senior biomedical exercise science major from Canada identified “Star Wars” as a classic, making him excited to see the movie. There are two other movies Hamilton said he is interested in seeing.

One that premiered this past Wednesday entitled “View from a Blue Moon” is about surfer John John Florence, who was born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu. According to its website, “View from a Blue Moon” is the first surf movie shot in 4K resolution, which means that the images are extraordinarily crisp. “The cameras they use are insane and the underwater shots are unreal.” said Hamilton.

Ethan Precourt, a senior business management marketing major from Virginia talked about how he, too, was excited for “View from a Blue Moon,” discussing his fascination with the quality of the trailer as well as the shots in the trailer.

The other movie Hamilton mentioned was “The Good Dinosaur.” It is the latest movie from Pixar and premiers on Nov. 25. “The Good Dinosaur” takes place on an alternate timeline in which dinosaurs never became extinct. The movie then follows the path of a young dinosaur who finds himself far away from home, and during his efforts to return, becomes unlikely friends with a young cave boy, said the IMDb summary.

“‘The Land before Time’ was my go-to show as a kid, and Pixar is the best. I love everything Pixar,” said Hamilton about wanting to see “The Good Dinosaur.”

Trussel is also waiting for the “The Good Dinosaur.” She said, “I’m stoked about it. I love Pixar so much. They always make me happy and make me cry. ‘The Good Dinosaur’ is an original idea and I feel like haven’t seen too many movies like it before.”

Other key movies coming out in the next few months include, but are not limited to: “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,” premiering on Nov. 20, “Macbeth,” premiering on Dec. 4, and “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” premiering on Feb. 5.

Students also mentioned movies not set to come out this winter. Andy Lau, a freshman EXS major from Hong Kong, said he is looking forward to “Now You See Me 2,” a sequel to the first “Now You See Me.” That was a movie following four magicians and their epic heists as well as the law enforcement trying to stop them.

Also in the Pixar realm, Halia Bangal, a senior elementary education major from Kailua, brought up the movie “Finding Dory,” the much-awaited sequel to the movie “Finding Nemo.” The trailer for “Finding Dory” was released on Tuesday and the movie is set to premier in June 2016.
