Graduate schools, businesses, and branches of the military connected with BYU–Hawaii students at the Career Fair on Thursday, March 11. Alumni and Career Services put on the event to allow students to learn about and discover different employment opportunities.

“This fair was able to give me insight and direction for what I could do after school,” said Keanu Mataoa, a freshman business finance major from Tahiti. Mataoa said students are usually confused with the different majors available but can gain an understanding of the different jobs and what major they should strive for through the Career Fair.

Each organization had an individual booth where students could come and receive brochures and advice. Booths included businesses such as Starwood Hotels, the Department of Education, and even representatives from BYU advertising graduate programs.

Keilani Briones, manager at the Alumni and Career services, said she felt the fair was a good opportunity to interact with employers to help them become more prepared to enter the field.

“Even though many of the students may not be looking for a job at this time, a lot of these employers have internship opportunities, management and training programs and are looking to hire,” said Briones.

“Its good to share with students the different positions they may not know about,” said Mario Villegas, a representative of the BAYADA Behavioral Health Association. “It’s a good networking opportunity for students and for the businesses as well,” he added.

The BYUH career fair occurs twice a year with the next one scheduled for October 2016, according to Alumni and Career Services.
