Nintendo made announcements regarding their upcoming releases for their new gaming console, the Switch, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles on June 12 to 14. Nintendo BYUH fans talk about what they are looking forward to, concerning future releases as they reminisce on past games.

According to the company website, https://e3.nintendo.com, “The Nintendo Switch is a home console that can transition seamlessly to a portable handheld that gamers can enjoy anywhere. The Switch is designed to go wherever you go, transforming from a home console to portable system in a snap.”

Commenting on the features of the new console, Karissa Skinner-Karatassos, a senior from Pennsylvania majoring in elementary education said, “I got a Switch for Christmas last year, and I was very surprised. I think it is a great console. I have seen how much my brothers enjoy playing it back home. It is useful to have a portable-gaming system they can carry with them when they leave the house.”

The game announcements

At E3, the video game company presented a wide variety of games coming to the Switch, such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee, Fortnite, and Splatoon 2. New games coming to the company’s 3DS platform were WarioWare Gold, Detective Pikachu, and a remake of Luigi’s Mansion.

According to Nintendo’s website, Super Mario and the Legend of Zelda are the most popular characters among Nintendo fans and have been staple properties since introducing them in 1985.

A long time fan of the company and the games, Ephraim Insigne, a senior from the Philippines studying accounting, eagerly said, “I am very excited for Smash and the 65-plus characters, and I am looking forward to the new Metroid 4 game. We grew up playing Zelda and Ocarina of Time is still one of my favorites.”

Fans shared their feelings and experiences with Nintendo’s games, and one reason students play the games is because of their accessibility. Karatassos saw there is a Donkey Kong Switch game and expressed how she was “looking forward to it. I am also interested to see how the new Pokémon and Smash Brother’s games will turn out. We all love to play the Legend of Zelda games.I am always looking forward to a new Zelda game.”

Karatassos commented that the Switch is giving the opportunity to share what you love by making it more accessible and it’s what makes the new console and game announcements special. She said, “I enjoy playing Nintendo games because it is something I can share with my whole family.”
