With graduation looming and the risk of unemployment creeping up, students go to Career Fairs to find opportunities for employment and experience.

Regional Manager at Water Group 7, Jeremiah Sarmiento, who came to the last career fair, said he was impressed by the students who attended. “We found that BYUH students were very professional, very engaged, and very well spoken,” said Sarmiento, after attending a BYUH career fair. “We were pleased the people they did speak with.”

Sarmiento works for Water Group 7, which is a local water conditioning industry that provides equipment that can filter and create a higher quality of purified water. Their equipment eliminates or reduces chlorine from tap water, so that it can taste better and silkier, according to their website, watergroup7.com.

By using the equipment they provide, their system can give a good alternative to bottled water used in offices and bought from stores and save on money spent on those bottles. “The main benefit is when you are filtering and purifying your own water,” said Sarmiento. “You have the system in your possession, it's in your home. The cost is fractional compared when you are buying in bulk pre-filtered and pre-purified.”

Leading bottled water companies themselves use the system provided by Water Group 7 to provide high quality purified water. Representative from companies of higher quality water bottles will say they use reverse osmosis to purify their water, which is the same system that water group 7 uses. “There are alternatives. People have a choice, and you could filter your own water,” said Sarmiento.

Systems have also been provided in offices. Sarmiento said that downtown offices, which usually carry multiple 5-gallon bottles, have saved money and plastic by buying a Water Group 7 installation. “We’ve saved some offices hundred to 200 dollars per month just by switching,” said Sarmiento. “It's a very convenient product to have.”

Water Group 7 is very accommodating to students, training and providing experience with no previous experience necessary. “When I was a college student, the biggest challenge was getting into an organization,” said Sarmiento. “We are looking for someone that sounds like a great character, who is friendly and outgoing.”

JC Gerard, a service technician from Honolulu, started working part time with Water Group 7 when he was still in college. “It was flexible with work and class, especially when exams came around,” said Gerard. “I’ve been with them for seven years. It's great.”

While Gerard has worked with Water Group 7, he said that he has seen a big change in houses due to the water filtration system. This was especially evident on the west side of the island where it used to be agricultural land. “It's fun and rewarding. I’ve really enjoyed it and it’s been a great ride since I’ve been out of college.”

The system, which is made in the United States, lasts longer than a Brita filter. By having multiple filters, the system gets rid of bacteria, viruses, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds, according to Water Group 7’s website. This soft water provided is better than the hard water usually provided by the tap. Evidence of hard water can also be seen the rings in the toilet or shower, or in areas with high use of water, according to watergroup7.com.

“You can see the graininess of the water in stale buildup from fixtures. This [system] is instant and the water glides off the skin,” said Gerard. For more info, contact: (808) 732-977 or look on watergroup7.com.
