Gun violence statistics used in arguments both for and against gun control
In 2013, the U.S. Center for Disease Control reported 11,208 deaths from firearms. The following year, as reported by the Gun Violence Archive, this number increased to 12,558. However, for 2015 the number of deaths from firearms is 9,510, with the total number of firearm incidents (including injuries) dropping from 51,728 to 37,820. A quick calculation reveals there were 13,908 fewer gun violence-related incidents this year than there was last year.

Hawaii struggles with homelessness, Honolulu enacts sit-lie ban
Hawaii has the nation’s second-highest number of homeless people per capita, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness. There are more than 7,600 people statewide who are homeless, with about 4,900 homeless living on Oahu, reported AP.
Friends of Lkhagvajargal (Happy) Dalaichuluun say her contagious positivity helps her live up to her name
Having traveled around Mongolia and the United States, Lkhagvajargal Dalaichuluun said her experiences have helped her overcome challenges. Her passion for traveling, she said, has led her to make new friends, explore new places, and create new memories. According to Dalaichuluun, you don’t have to be wealthy or wait for the perfect timing to travel, all you need to do is set goals, pick a date and just do it.
The Cook Islands performing group returns with new chants and dances to heat up the summer at the PCC
The Cook Islands performing group ended their six-week stay at the Polynesian Cultural Center with a final canoe parade on July 18. In total of 20 young performers, who were chosen from the Cook Islands National Art Theater, came to showcase the culture, encourage tourism, learn more about education opportunities in BYU-Hawaii, and allow themselves to be immersed in the LDS faith.
Alumnus Odgerel Ganbaatar brings fire knife dance to Mongolia and creates his own crew
Odgerel Ganbaatar said he found his passion for fire knife dancing while studying at BYU–Hawaii. He shared how he worked hard to become a fire knife dancer at the Polynesian Culture Center, and after his graduation, he returned home and later created his own crew, which has performed in many different events, including the Mongolian National Holiday Parade.
