A classic Halloween tradition was celebrated with a Hawaiian twist on Thursday, Oct. 24 as students gathered together at the Hale Pavilion for a pineapple carving event. In an ode to the classic jack-o’-lantern, participants fused Hawaii with Halloween as they hollowed out and then carved faces into pineapples.
Having represented his country of Tahiti in sports like American football, rugby sevens and soccer, Iotua Anié, a sophomore majoring in social work, said he turned down a football scholarship to BYU in Provo and instead chose to attend BYU–Hawaii.

After more than two months of being closed, the weight room of the BYU-Hawaii Fitness Center reopened on Monday, Sept. 16. Initially only planned to close for two weeks at the beginning of July to redo the lighting and ceiling, asbestos was found in the ceiling which lead to an extended closure to remove the minerals.
