The seventh annual Polynesian Football Hall of Fame induction began with a blow of a conch shell as the Hall of Fame prepared to honor four new inductees and three players of the year.
After sharing an early-morning breakfast on Aug. 30 outside the Cannon Activities Center, faculty and staff sat with their spouses to listen to President and Sister Tanner share messages alongside Elder Ringwood of the Seventy and his wife. Both couples encouraged those in attendance to lead through example by “lift[ing] and enlighten[ing]” the students.
New Student Experience (NSE) in combined efforts with the BYU-Hawaii President’s Council began two new traditions on Aug. 30 at the Cannon Activities Center. The hiki mai chant and the Mālamalama. Incoming students were encouraged to respect and love the community of Laie as well as to stay on the covenant path.
Through team-building activities, BYU-Hawaii Holomua mentors and high school students from different parts of the world kicked off the week, embracing them in “a flavor of Zion.”
According to BYU–Hawaii surfers, their shared love for surfing brings them closer together. They shared how it strengthens their faith, builds friendships, and offers a thrill beyond compare despite the dangers that accompany the sport.
The Space Dance turned out to be a victory, said a member of BYU-Hawaii’s Students Events, due to the success it had in bringing out more married students than past dances. According to students, the Salsa band and the food contributed to the large number of attendees on Friday, Feb. 9 held at the CAC.
